Martin Luther. He and many others had a lot of criticisms towards church mandates and corruption in the papacy. He wrote up these criticisms in a list with 95 points, and nailed it to the church door- triggering the reformation.

The Reformation actually came to England during Henry VII's rule. He wanted to divorce his Catholic wife but the Pope wouldn't let him, so he started the Church of England that he led. He'd go on to have five more wives, and Mary I and Elizabeth I were his daughters who had differing views on the religious direction their country should take.
